The process for backing up sound bank files is relatively easy. This applies to all our instruments. Consult your Synthesizer's operation manual for instructions on how to use the “Dump” parameter to send SysEx files out from the synth. In all cases, the “Dump” parameter can be found in the Global or System menu.
Below you will find information on how to send sound bank SysEx files from your DSI synth to your computer for backup.
You can use any standard MIDI or MIDI to USB interface, or for our synths that have a USB port you can transfer SysEx files directly over USB.
First, you'll need a MIDI utility such as MIDI-OX for PC or SysEx Librarian for Mac to update your OS. Both are free downloads with instructions and can be found here, respectively:
Here is information regarding configuring MIDI-OX to receive SysEx Data from your Synth:
After installing the application, launch MIDI-OX. Attach a MIDI cable from your synthesizer's MIDI Out port to your computer MIDI interface's MIDI In port.
Next, select the “MIDI Devices” menu item from the “Options” pull-down menu. In the upper left quadrant of the window click on the MIDI port which is connected to the synth. The selected MIDI port will appear in the bottom right quadrant of the window in the “Port Mappings” window. Click “OK” to close the window and save the settings. If you're using your synth's built-in USB port, select your synth's name as the MIDI port in the menu instead.
Now, under the “View” drop-down menu select the “SysEx” menu item. The “SysEx” window will open. Select the “SysEx” drop-down menu and choose the “Receive Manual Dump” menu item. MIDI-OX will now await the SysEx dump from your synth.
After the SysEx dump completes, save the SysEx file using the “Save” menu item in the “Command Window” drop-down menu.
Here is information regarding configuring SysEx Librarian to receive SysEx data from your synth:
After installing the application, launch SysEx Librarian. Select your MIDI interface from the center drop-down menu at the top. Make sure your interface is selected and not “Act as a source for other programs”. If you're using your synth's built-in USB port, select your synth's name as the MIDI interface in the menu instead.
Attach a MIDI cable from your synthesizers's MIDI Out port to the computer MIDI interface MIDI In port. Press the “Record One” or “Record Many” button depending on how many programs you wish to send to the application. SysEx librarian will now await the SysEx dump from your synth.
After the SysEx dump completes, the SysEx data will be saved and the file will be highlighted as “untitled” in SysEx librarian's window. Rename the file to an appropriate name.
